Game 1 - Sept. 6
What a great way to start the Fireballs Soccer Season! The girls played as an experienced team and had a fun time! The 5 goals were scored by Maya, Brooke, Anika, and Amber made 2! It was an entire team effort as almost everyone took a shot on goal. I was really impressed with the girls' nice behavior on the sidelines and during our breaks. Special thanks to Clark as our last minute referee, Joanne for the snacks, and Sarah for helping on the sidelines.
After each game, one player will receive a Game Award for effort and contributions that day. This week Maya received the soccer ball necklace. See you all at Tuesday's 3:00 practice then we have a game this Saturday at 8:30 so try to be there by 8:10. Thank you for Fireballs Support!
Coach LisaGame 2 - Sept. 13
Today we played against "The Destroyers". They were a more physical team and the Fireballs did so well in playing defense and working together. We had practiced going around our opponents which the girls demonstrated many times today! Our 1 goal made by Maya kept us tied with them until the last few minutes to end the game at 2-1. Amber was given the Game Award as she consistently passed to other players and backed up teammates. I really love having all the girls asking when they can go in next and that our two injuries did not stop the girls from wanting to play more!
Thanks to Julia Daniels for the snacks and to Phil Hubbell for helping to coach!
Our next practice is on Tuesday. You don't need to send the girls with soccer balls. I also have a pair of running sneakers that were left on the field two practices ago-let me know if they are yours!
Feel free to send any digital photos to Michael at mfairman@cruzio.com, and he will upload them with the rest.
Thanks!
Coach Lisa
Game 3 - Sept. 20
Game 3 was very exciting as the girls played more in their positions. The defense really knew how to follow the ball wherever it was on the field. Strong goals were made by Lauren Banks (2), Amber (2), and Lauren Hubbell (1) for a 5-0 lead. Anika and Esme made fantastic assists on two of those goals. I took out one of our players in the 4th quarter as we had a strong lead and we want both teams to do well. The girls at first did not understand this but after we talked about it at practice, they see how this shows good sportmanship. Coach's Award was given to the person who made the most shots on goal, and although the entire team pushed hard, Lauren Banks kept the other goalie the busiest so congrats to her for this game. Thanks to the Brighams for the snacks at the game!
October 4 is picture day for the team at Harvey West. I suggest we get our team picture at 11:30, following our game. Please go to the league website under schedules to read what we need to do. If there are too many conflicts for 11:30, then we need to move it to 8:45 so let me know in the next few days. Thanks!
Also, thanks to Coach Phil and Sam Clarkson for helping at this week's practice. Special thanks to the moms who have been helping the girls get ready afterschool!
Game 4 - Sept 27
The Fireballs had a great game against the Pandas and really came together as a team. We had a strong scoring offense with 2 goals from Lauren Banks with an assist from Brooke, 2 goals from Amber, 1 goal by Brooke, and another goal by Lauren Hubbell. In the last quarter, we took out 3 players so the Pandas could get some goals in, but the end result stayed 6-0 for the Fireballs. Thanks to the Banks for the snacks.
Game 5 - Oct 4
We played the most challenging team so far, the FireRockets. We dominated in shots on goal but just could not get through their goalie. It was an off day with the weather, some players missing, no snacks, and I had tried a new lineup which resulted in too much bunching. By the fourth quarter, we played stronger as Esme scored our only goal against their 2 goals. Poppy received Coach's Award as she constantly hustled and did some thoughtful passing.
Since Under 8 teams can have two hours of practice a week, I would like to extend our weekly Tuesday practices until 4:30. This is only 15 minutes longer, but it is preferable than adding another day. PLEASE send your daughter with a snack and her own water as a number of the girls are coming to games and practices without either.
Also, I make the game roster by Friday before each game. If your daughter will NOT be at the game, please let me know as soon as you know. I am also happy to adjust the the times your daughter plays to fit parents'/grandparents' visits so again let me know before Saturday if possible. We are almost 1/2 way to the end of the season and the team is doing so well. Thanks for all of your support!
Game 6 - Oct 11
We had our first no score game with a loss of 0-4 to the Lucky Clovers. Chiara received the Coach’s Award for hustling in all the positions she played. We are at the halfway point of the season and it is great to see how far they have come in skills and in knowledge!
Game 7 - Oct 18
I know the coach of the other team, The Vampires, and knew this would be our hardest game. With 3 of our players out of town, it was up to our strong team of 8 to play the entire game. My advice to our players was to have fun and put all that they had learned on the field today. Well, they did it. Lauren Banks scored the first goal which surprised The Vampires because they were undefeated and had not been challenged. Everyone played so well and were very focused against a bigger and more experienced team. The final score was Fireballs 1 and The Vampires 3, but it was an even game all around. Great spirit on both teams and the other team parents complimented all the girls on their play! I told the girls they all deserved the Coach's Award today and Esme received the Award for her non-stop hustling and smart plays. Thanks to the Johnsons for all the snacks! Go Fireballs!
Game 8 - Oct 25
The Fireballs had a great game against the Blue Dolphins, using lots of passing and teamwork. Brooke rushed the goal many times, scoring two goals. Esme, Poppy, and Maya scored our other three goals with strong assists from Anika, Lauren B., and Lauren H. We were ahead of the Blue Dolphins 5-1 so we took out a player and they were able to score a goal, making the final at 5-2. Coach's Award went to the well deserved Lauren H. who was very focused and saved many goals as goalie in the last quarter.
There are only 3 games left with our next game on Saturday at 12:15. Chiara's family is in charge of snacks.
Also, last Thursday's practice with the Under 10 girls team was a big success. I have invited Coach Scott and the Under 6 team to join us at the end of this Tuesday's practice so our players can work with the younger kids.
Game 10 - Nov 8
The team had agreed to help 3 of our players who have not scored goals yet to try and score today. The three players had many shots on goal and it was fabulous to see how thoughtful our team was in passing and paying attention to each other. We had a strong offensive game (6-0) with 2 goals scored by Lauren Banks, 2 by Lauren Hubbell, and one each by Maya and Poppy. Assists were made by Anika, Brooke, Chiara, Mia, and Lexi. Three Coach's Awards went to Lexi, Anika, and Mia today for really hustling with the ball. Thanks to Sam for bringing snacks!
Thanks also this week to Asst. Coach Phil who "Philled in" for me at Tuesday's practice. I heard the team did well considering the cold conditions!
Our last practice is this Tuesday at 3:00 at the school. Parents and siblings are welcome to come and play in our scrimmage at 4:00! Sadly, our final game will be on Saturday at 8:30 against a team that beat us 2-1. It will be fun to see how much our players have improved. Sophia is organizing our Team Party at Frederick Street Park after the game. Please talk to her for more details. I will also be picking up the team pictures this Thursday night at the Coaches' Dinner so will bring them to our party.
Thanks so much!
